It's 12:52am. I'm worrying.
I see everything at once and my brain goes into overdrive. I see the laundry on the couch, the vacation I've yet to plan, the challenge of tomorrow's schedule. And, why oh why, for the love of sizzling Saturday morning bacon, am I worrying about school starting and stressing out?
Worry is the great temptress of the heart. She wants to woe your soul beyond boundaries that you are not meant to cross yet. Worry whispers, "go, hurry, watch out, run ahead."
Worry has no power to protect you. In fact, it draws you away from your true protector.
Worry is a mistress. She will entice you with the promise of safety, but when you get close, she will strangle you. She will lure you away from your first love.
Instead, listen to wisdom.
Oh, wisdom will lead you down a well worn path. The wise have left footprints they want you to follow. For wisdom will take you to love. She always will. Love isn't absent of pain or hard, but she won't leave you. When you listen to wisdom your heart will expand like a womb making room for a baby.
The way out of worry is the way of wombing more deeply into the Father’s love.
Stay in today. Stay right here. Don't let worry woo you away from the love that is right here.
A Prayer for when you feel Worried
Breathe in—Lord God, help me . . .Breathe out—walk with You.
Here I am, worried and afraid.
By Your grace may I come under Your arms of protection.
May I find conviction to keep walking even when fears abound—as You did.
May I find humility to keep my eyes on my Father’s love—as You did.
May I find faith to face losing everything I hold dear—as You did.
Pain is not my greatest enemy; living a life separated from Your love is.
With You and in You, I have everything my soul needs.
Help me stay here, in this hour, in this second, in this breath—with You.
Amen.
