We are opening a retreat home!
NEXT-DOOR-TO-US!!! (Yes! right next door!)
Since I was a little girl this has been my dream. Is it weird that a young child would dream of having a retreat center? Kind of, right?!
Here is the story, God’s story.
I’ll be sharing a lot more in the coming months. But, God started this story decades ago and it’s truly a miracle.
1976- Miriam Maneevone (my mom) befriended a young man named Bill Cadwallader. Bill attended their home ministry called, “ICF,” but shortly after attending their weekly Bible studies, he contracted AIDS. When his family disowned him, Miriam stepped in and loved him.
Bill suffered greatly at the end of his life. Miriam recalls a time when Bill called her desperate for just a sip of water but he couldn’t get out of bed. Miriam hurried down to his home in Poway (20 mins away) to help, support, pray with him, and get him a glass of water. Bill viewed her as his mom. After his passing, he gave her his home because he loved her.
1990- I had a small, yet profound experience at church where, in an instant, I knew I wanted to do some sort of home ministry.
1998- I read the book, “The Hiding Place,” by Corrie Ten Boom. This confirmed my desire to open a home for those in need. Year after year, I hoped, prayed, and waited. Several times I tried to make this dream a reality, but the doors never seemed to open.
2004- The summer I turned 24. I had the opportunity to go on a 3 week solitude retreat. It would be the same retreat Sam would go on shortly after we were married (2005). It was on this solitude retreat that we both had life changing experiences. The seed I had since I was young was now a dream we both shared. We longed to see believers in Jesus taste the living water offered by Christ alone.
As Sam served in the church and I did on-line ministry and wrote books, we both saw an increased need for soul care. We witnessed churches, leaders, families dismantle, pastors fall into painful depression, husbands shamefully disappear into more addiction, and women break under the pressure of motherhood. The quiet whisper of a retreat home was always in the back of our minds and the only thing we could think was—maybe someday.
January 2023- The house next door to us became available to purchase. After a considerable amount of prayer with their parents, Miriam and Wichit, they believed the house, 1060 Pinecrest, was the perfect place for a retreat center.
March 2023- Through a string of miraculous events, the Maneevone’s sold the house they inherited over 30 years ago from Bill Cadwallader in Poway and bought 1060 Pinecrest Ave. They graciously are letting us use this home to build a retreat home.
Thus launching a new ministry called Sojourn and Sage—wisdom for the weary. This home is called, “The Hope House.”
The dream God put in our hearts years ago and the Maneevone’s heart for the next generation to grow in their love for the Lord is now here.
“The Hope House” —a home for people to stay, rest, and find hope. A healing place for young adults, men, women, pastor’s, artists, the broken, the beat up, the barely making it, and those stumbling backwards towards Jesus to, not just find rest, but water for their souls.
It’s remarkable to me how my mom offered one sip of water to a dying man and now hundreds will drink down water for their souls.
I promise I’ll be sharing more. You won’t be able to shut me up about how exciting this is!
Thank you for sharing in our joy!
For now, do you want to see it?
Welcome to—The Hope House!
Do you remember that hose in Poway? I can't wait to do this with YOU! Let's start dreaming!
We LOVE YOU! Thank you for modeling hospitality in our lives! We get to pass that onto others now. Thank you for your prayers and support!
